Fog rolled in waves across the bitter world. Orange eyes seemed lost in a trance as each limb moved. It was like fingers wiggling in a glove but the glove was her skin and the fingers her mind. Thoughts were lost in shattered patterns rolling inside her like crystallized wings. If only she could grasp even one fragment of a sound, a word, anything than she could find her voice again.
She focused on the ground beneath her, coarse and rough from the ware of time. She had heard rumors of the ghost that haunted the road that never ended and it had piqued her interest in an unconscious level. Would she see their souls again? Would they be thick with blood and their smiles twisted into agonizing snarls? Would his eyes of starlight find their way from haunted nightmares into reality? Was she in the here and now? Was this road, which her claws clutched to as if her life depended on it, a true road or a figment of her shattered mind?
What was up and what was down? She couldn’t remember anymore. Was it day or night or somewhere in-between? Her eyes rolled in the back of her mind as her haunches found the ground beneath them. She held her head down and pushed a paw against her aching mind. She was so numb. She could feel that “guardian” holding her skin hostage. If she screamed out loud would her voice break the never-ending silence or would “it” stop her before the sound left her lips?
Her heartbeat was the only sound she could hear. Her words whispered into the darkness around her a name. “Lothaire” he was the chain to her world. Or he had been or had he ever been? She couldn’t remember much but a cunning smile and demanding voice. Had he asked the world from her or had she simply imagined it? a world once was and now unworthiness. She was nothing. Her mind pounded again with the pain of trying to face reality from fantasy.
Her dark ears fell back in despair as she tightly closed her orange eyes. Who was she? The rage that made her lash out was seeping into her bones. She could feel the heat of it bleeding into her mouth. Fangs had pierced her tongue to allow the tainted nickel taste to pool against her rage. Blood was memories. Blood was sanity. She needed it to remind herself that she indeed existed, maybe her memories were askew but she was not unreal. She existed; even if it was a memory of a memory of her, she was still something. Right? She pushed her claws deeper into the ground to really feel the ground beneath her for a little reassurance. She existed she conformed but who was in control?

[attr=class,inthemist_background] [attr=class,inthemist_back2] [attr=class,itm_tbox] Eerie, that seems to be the best word to describe this place. Every inch, scent, and feel of this place was wrong. When they say demons, ghouls and spirits roam this unnatural road they had clearly not been joking. Although, Xin wasn't as superstitious as his previous pack was he could not help but feel something here. Right before coming here, the day was bright and lovely, but as soon as he got near the road fog rolled in. It was so thick you could hardly see anything ahead. He hated it! It feels as if he was losing his sight in his right eye; his good eye. The air was so dense and humid it made muscles ache, and his eyes burn.
Why did he decide to come here again? Oh yes, it was to see whether the rumors were true. Not about the demons or spirits but the paradise on the other end of this road. No one has made it to the end and came back which is why many think it never ends. That is, however, ridiculous. Everything has an end and just because no one came back doesn't mean anything. They could have gotten lost, run into a predator or... be taken by a demon. Xin stopped and desperately shook his head. Nope! No way, was he going to allow his superstitious upbringing rule him. The other possibility must be because they found something worth staying. A paradise, perhaps? If there was then that location would be the perfect place to base his pack in. A true sanctuary for the outcast, the misfits of society, the unwanted.
stupid legs... STOP shaking! Xin glared down at his legs. They were trembling so bad he feared he might lose his balance if he lifted one paw. Cursing, Xin closed his eyes and tried to steady his breathing. Curse his upbringing! It has to be the fact he had grown around superstitious canines that he's feeling this way.
After a moment longer, the trembling slowly stopped, and his breathing steadied. Xin opened his eyes, and the first thing he saw was a silhouette form he could have sworn had not been there a moment ago. Involuntarily, he flinched and immediately thought, a demon has come to take him. Xin cursed his stupidity. Demons can not exist. The form ahead has to be someone who came here... someone who has a similar reason as he does, perhaps? Xin cleared his throat and stepped forward, cautiously approaching the figure in the mist. "Umm... excuse me? Are you friend or foe?" he asked, pleased that his voice remained steady, unlike his heart.

I had to know what it was about this trail that spooked wolves, that drew them in and that made them scatter, or simply swallowed them in it's emptiness. I smirked as I heard my son's steps become slower, he was terrified of the fog around us. I offered no comfort, he didn't need any. He knew how to self-soothe, and in time he would come to be as brave as I. So I soldiered on into the fog, at first seeing nothing. "Mother," Samuel spoke suddenly. "Are we really going to live here?" he asked me with a trembling voice. I nodded without sparing him a glance. Whatever we found, we would at the least be spending the night here.
We, in this scenario, suddenly meant four instead of two. I only stopped when I caught the shadowy figures moving ahead of me. Both were fairly large, perhaps males. I turned to my son with a look he knew wall and he scrambled back into the fog. Once he was secured behind me I continued onward, eharding a faint question from the figure to my left. Friend or foe? He didn't see me, he wasn't looking in my direction, so it seemed we were three strangers meeting in such a place. Three venturing this path at once? Perhaps not as abandoned as I had once suspected. It made me double-think my choice of taking this place, but I had something more pressing to focus on.
"I am always a foe." I spoke from behind the male, slowly approaching. I likely stood out from the fog with my snowy fur, my bright amber eyes glowing in the low lighting as I took slow steps towards him. My size helped my game of intimidation, and I knew my confidence was definitely nothing that would ease a worried wolf's nerves. Whoever this was, he was cowardly to be asking such a question to a stranger. No, maybe not cowardly. Maybe it was foolish. I stopped just a few inches behind the wolf and added, "As is anyone until proven otherwise. You fool." I rolled my eyes at him. © BRAVE 2017

Words. They echoed softly against the darkness of her mind. At least she thought they were words. Had she heard a voice? Perhaps her mind was playing a memory. Who did that voice belong to? She could feel the desire to push fangs into flesh pull at the edges of her sanity. Blood would give her the information she needed. Just a little sip would help. Her head turned slowly in the direction of the sound. What were those words uttered?
Her violet eyes closed for a moment as she focused on the lyrics of the stranger’s question. She let the words fill her head. friend.. She thought for a moment. She was no threat without a master pilling the strings to her shattered world. Foe the words triggered those nightmare like eyes that watched her in the darkness. She filched at those eyes in the darkness and her hairs erupted in response to the lingering danger that came with the promise of violence. She allowed her androgynous form to pull upright as she struggled to separate the reality from her fantasy world.
Before she could make her move towards what she thought may be a beacon of light in the fog of despair another emerged from the clutches of the demons road. Dark ears fled from the soft uncertainty of the prince of uncertainty to he queen of the damned. Something in her tone sparked a memory in the behemoths mind. Lothaire she thought and she felt the ease of the puppet masters grip over her skin. Familiar things helped ease the chaos of the unknown. Memories were like mirrors into her fractured soul and if she could find a large enough shard she could walk into the present instead of being sucked into the past.
“Where am I?” she asked for clarity. These strangers knew nothing of the confusion that swept away her confidence. They knew nothing of the in-between she lingered in on a daily biases. Dark lips furled back with her confusion. “Are we along the thorn less path or are they just on the edges?” she asked, her riddles were often times difficult to understand but those that knew her would understand. Her bright gaze was focused on the Queen of the damned before her. Their fierceness showed the potential that broken mind could have should it find its security. Though her question was odd her meaning was if they were in reality and not in her mind. She was always unsure if her sanity and insanity mixed or if the puppet master had consumed her mind completely.
The male had not fallen forgotten in the women’s mind. His question still echoing in her mind but the clarity was what she craved and he could not provide that for her. However, maybe the queen could. So her lost gaze was focused on her but one lone dark ear was pulled in his direction in a subtle show of acceptance of his presence.

[googlefont="Aubrey"] [attr=class,inthemist_background] [attr=class,inthemist_back2] [attr=class,itm_tbox] As he waited for an answer, he felt his hackles rise, and the uneasy feeling he had since coming to this place became a heavy stone in his stomach. Something was behind him. A familiar presence that immediately made him think of the wolf he hated most. Anubrix. That's impossible! he thought desperately. That male was the alpha of his previous pack, and their lands are in the Southern Regions; a year's journey from here.
"I am always a foe," an unfamiliar feminine voice spoke from behind where the terrible presence resides. Xin whipped his head around, spotting a pure white female wolf to his right. Thank the ancestors, she came from his right and not his left since the vision on his left isn't good thanks to the bad left eye. Every fiber of his body went cold and his breath caught in his throat. The look in those yellow eyes was evil, demonic. Instantly, he knew this she-wolf was dangerous. She had the same aura, the same darkness his father has, and to Xin, there is no greater darkness than that. "As is anyone until proven otherwise. You fool."
Xin narrowed his eyes at the white wolf. She stood with confidence bordered on arrogance. Though he hates it when others judge someone so quickly based on appearances or first impressions he couldn't help but judge this wolf. No doubt she is a living demon living as a wolf. "I wouldn't go insulting others now. Most unwise," Xin said in an even and compelling voice.
“Are we along the thornless path or are they just on the edges?” Another voice answered, interrupting Xin's thoughts. He turned his head back to the figure in front of him and at the same time shifted his rear to his left, so he no longer had his back to the white female. Because he only had one good eye, he couldn't keep one eye on the white she-wolf and the figure ahead of him. Instead, Xin kept his body tense and one ear on the white wolf while he looked at the other.
The figure had come closer, appearing from the fog. Well now! It was another wolf but what's interesting is not just the size but the fact the wolf is female. Female wolves rarely reach the same height and build of a male. Xin repeated what the grey wolf said in his head and couldn't help but raise a brow at it. Was that a riddle? For a moment, Xin wondered if this female was like the white wolf, but as he looked into those eyes, he couldn't feel the same aura. She could be hiding it, but Xin was usually good at seeing past the deception. All he could see was a broken soul as he gazed into those eyes that looked at the white female with hope.
Oh, this isn't going to be good, he thought. Though he can just turn away and leave, it wasn't Xin's nature to leave someone in need of his help whether it was his business to or not or they want it or not. If this white she-wolf was anything like Anubrix like he thinks she is then the grey wolf is in grave danger.

I turned my attention to the female as the male seemed to act as though I were a ghost, or demon. I just smiled to myself as she spoke, easily picking out the broken soul from the cracking shell that held it. She was on the verge of destruction, and I knew I could harness that energy and turn it into a weapon. The soul of those broken were the most potent, and could be a poison arrow I let loose into the heart of my foes. What a beautiful specimen she would be for the males, as well - I wondered absently if Samuel would find a fancy to her and take her as a breeder. It was definitely not out of the realm of possibility.
I gave the male a mere look of acknowledgement, letting his grey fur and blue eyes become a memory before my attention was returned to the harvest-able female. The male of the two grays spoke about my insult, but it only brought a bigger smile to my lips. Without gracing him with a glance I simply said, "You were being a fool to not observe all as foe in precaution, it was a mere fact. Not an insult." Males, I thought with a roll of my eyes. Samuel always thought he was right, too, but I was quickly beating that out of him. When it came to me, only whatever creator there may have been could tell me what to do, and even then I would forever rebel.
"The thorns follow the rose, wherever females like you or I go, the thorns are always on our heels." I went closer to the female, my eyes gleaming in a dangerous glee as I let my tail level with my spine, showing my dominance but no desire to attack. This bomb was exactly what I needed, and I'd be damned if that gray wolf got hold of her! I had my back to said male currently as I tried to focus on the bright-yellow eyed wolf, but I was listening to intently to any sign he was moving so that I could show them both what awaited those who poked the mighty wolf before them. I would not allow anything but respect and fear. "But a lone thorn stands behind us," I said as I turned my gaze to the blue-eyed male. There was a smirk on my face that gave him fair warning it was about to be two-on-one, if I could only twist this girl's mind the right way. © BRAVE 2017

A threat, lies, whispers, and words all circled around her mind. Her bright eyes closed tightly with the weight of everything crushing down on her. She felt her heavy weight sway for a second, threatening to fall; yet she held her ground as she pulled in a deep breath. She wanted to be awakened from the fog of her shattered mind and she couldn’t allow the puppet master to steal her consciousness now. Her fur bristled with her discomfort at the two and she felt the desire to blood building in her jaws. A low growl rumbled from her barley used throat. The sound was more menacing than she had intended. But there banter was confusing her even more than she was before. “Please.” She growled, her yellow eyes igniting with her uneasiness. A fight wasn’t something she desired to bare witness too at the moment, not until she was certain this was reality and not some damned play inside her minds eye. Neither had truly understood her words and she felt even more frustrated. The damned queen had twisted her riddle into something different. She had turned it into what they where compared to what he was. That wasn’t what she had asked. However, how could they know the road of thorns was her mind and the thorn less path was reality? Simplicity was what she needed right now and neither was assisting with that for the tension between the two of them was building. “I need..” she forced, her voice attempting to break the tension that as building around the three. Perhaps the demons of this path were feeding off their emotions. Building off them and bringing them to the brink of aggression. She wasn’t one to turn down a taste of blood but she wasn’t trying to chase phantoms either. Her yellow eyes focused on the male for a moment. She attempted to drink in his appearance. She had noticed his milky eye and hope he wasn’t torn between who to look at and who to ignore. “You are not in danger.” She assured him, not that she knew anything about this female before her. Something in the depths of her head she knew who she was. Knew those eyes and knew that look she gave the behemoth of a women. Lothaire had given her that look too. However, if needed, she would protect the male from her if only to clarify they were both real and not some sick conger from her mind. She moved towards the queen of the damned. Her motions were not intrusive or dominating in nature but more sluggish and docile. Though it was difficult for the titan of a woman to look anything but intimidating she was hoping to gain clarification. “I need to know.” She said with a hit of desperation in her voice. Her ears fell back against her head as she drew closer to the female. In reality she was probably better off finding clarity from the male before her than the female but that women demanded respect and she couldn’t help but be drawn to that. “Are you both real?” she said as she attempted to paw at the women’s paw. Yet her words were held for both of them. She hadn’t forgotten the knight that’s sword was lowered with the intentions of protecting the broken queen. It was amusing how she had suggested she would protect him when he was better set to protect her from herself. Her tail was tucked behind her as a sign of submission and her eyes were lowered. She wasn’t attempting to set off the other. She merely needed clarification that this was reality. Once her mind was at ease she could focus on communicating more efficiently. It wasn’t lost to her that the threat she had lost in those lips wouldn’t come lashing at her with her attempt to gently touch the women. She was ready for either acceptance or aggression that could come with her actions. The road of thorns wouldn’t inflict true pain but reality would. Nor would she be able to feel anything other than he ground beneath her paws if this was indeed a figment of her imagination. words 702 tags `Envis Wolfe ●

[googlefont="Aubrey"] [attr=class,inthemist_background] [attr=class,inthemist_back2] [attr=class,itm_tbox] "You were being a fool to not observe all as foe in precaution, it was a mere fact. Not an insult." The white she-wolf said in a tone that screams arrogance. Oh, he so does not like the white she-wolf. Everything about her set off all of his warning bells. Xin said nothing because there was nothing to be gained in arguing for something so trivial as who was a fool or not. Especially when there is someone in need like the huge grey she-wolf in front of him.
The witch - yes, he's calling the white wolf 'the witch' since among his previous pack's superstitions witches were in fact demons in disguise of animals - took a step closer to the giant she-wolf, her back to him. Although she was arrogant, Xin had a suspicion she wasn't so much to turn her back on a potential enemy without keeping tabs on him. She was likely listening for any movement he might make so she wouldn't be caught off guard. This wolf wasn't stupid by any means. Even if she were, Xin wouldn't have attacked her from behind. To him, it was the most cowardly act, and he was not like his father.
"The thorns follow the rose, wherever females like you or I go, the thorns are always on our heels," the witch said. Xin tensed his muscles, forbidding his body to shudder by her voice. He kept his body still and raised his head and tip of his muzzle a little higher with his tail straight. He would not bow to the white witch as he had never bowed to Anubrix or anyone like them. "But a lone thorn stands behind us," the witch turned her head to look at him with a smirk on her face.
Witch! A growl rumbled in his throat, and his hackles rose. She was threatening him and trying to manipulate the grey wolf so to make it an uneven fight. Well, it's not going to work! Xin glanced at the large female and noticed her frustration. Whatever the answer was to her riddle the witch's answer wasn't it. To be honest, Xin was perplexed by the riddle too, and he's usually good with puzzles.
“I need...” the grey canine trailed off. Although, he didn't lower his guard and kept his hearing on the witch his good eye locked with the grey wolf's who momentarily turned her attention to him. “You are not in danger.” Oh, he highly doubts that. He doesn't think the colossal female would intentionally harm him but the same couldn't be said for the white witch in between them.
Attention turned back to the witch, Xin shifted and slowly sidestepped in an effort to get in between the witch and the more massive female. He needs to distance the grey one from the white one. The white wolf's actions and expressions were proof enough for him that this wolf is not to be trusted. She and her kind are more dangerous than the most venomous snake or insect and if he has any chance of saving the broken female he needs to separate them.
Just as he was near enough to step in between the two wolves, the enormous grey female closed the distance between herself and the witch. Bi hy is may! Xin cursed silently and bit back a growl of frustration. “I need to know,” the desperation in the bigger wolf's voice melted his aggravation away in an instant. “Are you both real?”
Out of all the things he thought she would say he did not expect her to ask that. Xin turned his eyes back to the grey female and thought that she was more broken than he had first thought, but this didn't perturb him. He would help the female as best as he could, but Xin could only do that after he gets rid of the witch. How? That he doesn't know.
When the grey female further approached the white canine and attempted to touch her paw did Xin remember the wolf's riddle. "Are we along the thornless path or are they just on the edges?" She obviously didn't mean this road so... Thorn, thorn, thorn, he repeated in his mind, trying to figure it out. She could not mean actual thorns, so it must be symbolic in some form. Thorns are an aggravation symbol of suffering, pain, confusion. Wait! he stopped and glanced at the grey wolf again. Could she? Her latest question would make sense then. She must be suffering from hallucinations or something very similar. In his travels, he had come across a male who suffered from hallucinations. He had tried to help him, but when he had found the dog, he was too late to help. The dog was alone, starving and thirsty although the land was full of both. The dog was frantic, saying there were monsters and demons everywhere and even the trees were trying to hurt him. He had seen Xin as some guardian after he had managed to convince his broken mind that he wasn't a monster. It had been hard, being there and not being able to help although the dog did die peacefully soon after.
Xin wasn't sure, but he knew he had to try. He stepped forward, ears open, body tense and eying the white witch with his good eye. Cautiously he raised his right paw in an attempt to touch the grey wolf's shoulder gently. Xin prayed to his ancestors that this wolf doesn't turn on him or the witch for that matter. "Yes, we are real. However, I ask that you don't trust this white she-wolf. I know her kind. She is nothing but a manipulator and would no doubt try to use you." Xin said, narrowing his eyes at the witch. "Or am I wrong?" Xin challenged, daring her to contradict him, to try and prove him wrong.

I looked oddly at the younger wolf as she reached for my paw, allowing her to brush against it before I jerked to back and snarled a warning - I was not to be touched. “I am very real.” I assured, tempted to snap at her and make her bleed to make her realize the danger she was in. There were two directions this situation could go, and with me was her best bet. This male was half blind, he stood no chance against us if I could get this female giant on my side. Even alone I was sure I could take him down, but the extra insurance was reassuring.
The male’s growl that followed was met with my own, a less deep tone considering he was male but a threatening sound all the same. How dare he bare his teeth to me! He was asking for a fight now. He confirmed that as he warned of my type, a manipulator. Not far off, but he was foolish in the way he presented it. “You are wrong,” I lied with ease. “Clearly she needs someone who can protect her. You are half-blinded and you are weak, not preparing for the worst.” I scoffed, walking closer, snapping close to his paw that touched the other female, a warning to not attempt it again. “You are unprepared. I can protect her from the dangers of this world.” I said with confidence. Sorry it's short and kinda lame, I'm struggling with attention. lol
