cvetko The sky was starless and black, with the moon peeking out shyly from behind the cover of the thick, grey clouds suffocating the atmosphere. It was the only source of light in the night but, beneath the tangle of shadowy trees, Cvetko could hardly see it. He was fumbling around blindly, squinting in the darkness as he was pelted with the wrath of a very angry storm. He'd been caught in the rain for so long now that his fur was slick with water, sticking to his muddy paws and weighing him down more and more with every step. Tongue lolling and sides heaving, the dog sought out someplace safe--and dry--to hole up in for the night.
Luckily for him, he'd spotted a cave earlier in the day when the sun had been shining and the rain had been but a threat in the many puffy clouds. At the time, Cvetko had figured that he wouldn't need it--the caves had intimidated him as he wasn't one who particularly enjoyed being below ground. But now, as the rain seemed to pour down in sheets, Cvetko no longer saw it as such an awful idea. So what if he met a couple unfriendly animals in there? An angry snake was probably easier to face than a pissed off Mother Nature.
Sure he was walking in circles, it took the soaked dog a good half hour before he managed to find one of the daunting pitch-black holes that constituted as a cave entrance. Cvetko didn't even have to think twice. Shivering, he dragged himself into the cave's gaping black mouth and was swallowed within seconds.
While he could see even less in here than he could while outside, being out of the rain was such a relief that the male could hardly bring himself to care very much. He moved deeper into the cave, bumping into a wall here in there, simply trying to put some distance between himself and the rolling thunder rumbling outside. His paws were starting to hurt so bad (he'd been walking for quite a bit before having gotten himself caught out in the rain) that he could barely feel them against the cool floor of his newfound shelter. And it was in that moment that Cvetko had realized how much of an idiot he'd been--he couldn't have stowed himself away behind some rock or in some bushes until the weather cleared, no. It had been imperative that he stubbornly hunt down the cave he'd spotted earlier in the day. Oh yeah, sometimes the dog had some real good ideas.
"No point in complaining now," he reasoned with himself, ears twitching at how loud his voice sounded.
Cvetko flopped down on his side, sending up a cloud of dust he couldn't see, and closed his weary brown eyes. He sighed in the darkness of the cave, allowing the sounds of the pouring rain above lull him to sleep.

Wicked's day had started pretty laid back. He'd woken this morning to a pale sun in the sky, it's usual bright beautiful colors hadn't been present today. He had tasted the pregnancy of the air, heavy with humidity as a forewarning to the storm that would surely be rolling in by the afternoon. He had planned his day accordingly, heading out into the old forest to find himself a meal for the day. While it took him a little while because he wasn't the best hunter, eventually the mutt had caught himself a healthy little rabbit. He ate it quickly as the wind played with his fur, tickling the back of his neck. Once he'd finished his meal, the mutt began his trek toward Rattler's Cavern. The mutt had learned about the caves by talking to others native to the area so he knew where to go, however he hadn't been there yet. The name was intimidating, but with the wind picking up he figured it was the better option between the snakes or the storm. The husky must have walked for an hour or more, his feet hungering for a break from the hard ground beneath his toes. He pressed on, though, as the cry finally began it's slow weep: a thick mist falling to meet to ground. By the time Wicked's eyes finally caught site of the gaping mouth waiting to devour him, the mist of water had turned to steady rain, thunder threatening a worse storm to come. He ran the final stretch the the cave, shaking his fur until it was damp and not wet. While the cave was cold, it had been warmer than having the cold rain pierce his thick coat and bleed across his skin. Wicked had never been much a fan of dark, small spaces, however from the stories he'd heard of this place it was a bit deceiving. He'd heard stories of the incredible beauty, having holes in the ceiling where you could look up and see the stars or, in the daytime, look around and see the wonderful formations the rocks made. He was quite intrigued to see what it would look like when the sun was out tomorrow, however the exploration of the cave would have to wait another day, as the rain made it nearly impossible to see very far into the cave. Or, at least, to see well. The husky's maw let out a yawn, his body aching for a nap as he glanced around the cavern he'd entered. He'd hear each and every one was different from the last, however this being his first, it was quite an impressive cave to him. The ground was rough and uneven, you'd need to have your bearings about you at all times within this. The ground slanting downward to the back where an opening to the sky also opened above it. The rain, now pounding against the rocks above him, was beginning to create a large pool within the cavern, but it certainly had enough room to indulge the rain in it's little mission. The puddle had grown large even now, the edges reaching past the hole in the ceiling so Wicked could grab a drink without an assault on his face as he did so. He very much planned to indulge his thirst, however the mutt felt a bit more comfortable waiting until the rain would die down a bit before he did that. Wick carefully made his way to the side of the cave where he could rest his back against a wall for a nap. He stretched out, another yawn spreading his maw once more, as he quickly fell asleep to the sound of the storm raging outside. He must have been asleep for a while, because as the husky's blue eyes slowly saw the world once more, the rain had gone and the sounds of the storm were only echoes of his memories. The mutt shifted his weight so he no longer laid on his side, lifting his head to glance around. It seemed as though he hadn't had any visitors throughout the duration of his nap, but there were always those little crevasses you couldn't see into without being nearly on top of them. The sun was back to it's former pale color, still not quite as happy as it could be, but it now partially lit up the caverns so you could see further into it. Wicked could see, past the little lake that had been created by the rain, another opening to a different piece of the world. Wicked decided that was where he wanted to go, so he stretched as he got up and made his way carefully down to the pool of water. As he reached the pool, Wicked first lowered his mouth to the water, lapping up enough water to fill his belly and satisfy the itch of thirst in the back of his throat. Having been satisfied with that, Wicked's attention shifted to how he was going to get across the water. He had wanted to walk around it, however the water now reached across to the entire span of the cave, leaving only one way to get across. Wicked waded in and, as the floor fell away from his feet, he swam across, keeping his nose above the water. He quickly and quietly reached the other side, getting out of the water and shaking it from his fur vigorously. The floor was smoother and more flat than it was on the side Wicked had come in on, definitely making this the more favorable spot. Perhaps it would have been worth it to have done this earlier, but the male shrugged it off as he couldn't change it now. He glanced around, his eyes quickly settling on another sleeping body. "Hey," he said, attempting to wake the sleeping camper, "If it was your goal to wait out the storm then you've accomplished that."Tags // lysin Words // 995 words Notes // I'm super excited for this <3 © BRAVE 2017

cvetko Eyelids slowly fluttering open, the dog was met with alarmingly unfamiliar surroundings. So unfamiliar, in fact, that it took his brain a couple seconds to piece together where he was. The storm, he remembered suddenly. Glancing around and the now sunlit cave in which he'd practically passed out, Cvetko couldn't help but be taken aback by how spacious and, well, inviting it seemed. Or, well, mostly inviting. There, only a few steps away from him, stood a rather large dog. Cvetko jumped, taken by surprise, and blinked blearily up at the other male. Had the black-and-white canine said something? Is that why he looked so expectant?
"Wha?" Cvetko mumbled dumbly. He amended this with the addition of a husky, "Oh, sorry, do you live here?"
Keeping his eyes locked firmly on the other dog, the Kangal mutt rose to his feet, not bothering to shake off the dust from his fur. Cvetko trusted that the dog's intentions weren't too bad: after all, if this stranger was hoping to hurt him, a sleeping Cvetko would've made for an easier target. And now that he was standing up, the male could see that he probably weighed twice what the other did, and Cvetko had a few inches on him too. Still, some canines were weird, and there was no way that Cvetko was going to let his guard down any time soon.
Blinking away the last bits of sleep still clinging to him, the blond dog's nose took in the strange scents of a damp cave. Water had probably washed out most of the cave's natural odors, leaving behind mostly just mud and, well, wetness. And even if Cvetko had wanted to pick out other scents, the dog in front of him was emanating quite the strong smell, fogging over everything else around them. Nevertheless, Cvetko continued to taste the air, familiarizing himself with the stranger as best he could.

Dazed and confused were the words Wicked read plastered across the mutt's face. Clearly he was one of those canines who couldn't wake up on a whim because his feet wouldn't cross the threshold of sleep as fast as the rest of him would. His words were words of wonder, asking this male if he lived here and apologizing for any impositions he caused by spending the night. Wicked shook his head, his ears moving softly toward the few little noises emanating from outside, "No, I don't live here. I spent the night on the other side of the cave while the rain was coming down."Wicked allowed his eyes to explore the canine that stood before him, surveying his competition. The mutt was a bit taller than him, but he had to have weighed perhaps twice what Wicked weighed. He certainly was not someone Wicked could cross teeth with and get away without physical harm. His appearance was plain like the desert, though Wicked would give him the credit of having a few different varying shades to his pelt. His eyes, also, were plain but they held character to them. Wicked could tell right off the bat this wasn't a dog who would be out looking for a fight on a regular basis. He would even go as far as to say he was probably more of a peace keeper than anything and wouldn't challenge something asked of him. "I guess you don't live here either, right?" the mutt spoke as his butt fell to the ground, finding a more comfortable position than standing on his feet all day. "Where are you from, mutt?" he inquired, curious if the dog would answer. Not everyone had a home. Not even he had a home, but he couldn't help but wonder if this male was a simple nomad or if he'd found a deeper purpose within a pack. Though he wasn't sure if he was much of a pack man, Wicked knew a little bit of how packs worked. More often than not mutts would join because they wanted to feel a part of something greater than themselves or they wanted to be greater than all the others and have it be acknowledged. The husky had neither of those urges, he'd never needed the validation of a larger dog's lowered head to feel good about himself. He was the most handsome mutt of the forest whether others acknowledged their places or not. "I didn't come from far from here. I came from the forest, I'd met a wolf there who'd wanted me to join her pack, but I have yet to give her an answer," he spoke, his eyes wandering to look outside as his thoughts of the snow white queen came back into his head. She was a royal one, alright. Perhaps she was the only one better than himself, but he still never thought that warranted her his head low in submission. H turned his attention back to the situation at hand, however, and threw yet another question at the dog before he fell silent to let him answer, "Do you have a pack?"Tags // lysin Words // 525 words Notes // Sorry about the wait!! © BRAVE 2017
