Having spent most of his time in the old forest as of late, Wicked had begun to feel a bit cramped, even in such spacious terrain. Because of that, however, the male spontaneously decided he would take a walk and see where his feet could take him. He hadn't walked too far from the forest before the land began to shift and change. A little ways back he'd stumbled across a short stream of water. The sound of the rushing water made the mutt's throat tickle with thirst, however with the smell of a bear on the wind he decided it bed been best to keep on travelling.
This had brought him to where he was now: drawing nearer to the sweet smell of water. Before him stood a small lake with an interesting piece of land across the water. First, the mutt walked to the edge of the water, drinking what must have been about a gallon of water before he finally lifted his head. He could hear hundreds of birds calling from that little piece of land. They must have liked it as it was not a land someone would set up their home on. Assuming they weren't crazy, of course. He glanced around him to see what else was around, though the only thing of great interest seemed to be the island. The male huffed as he pressed forward a bit, dipping his paws in the cool lake water. He teetered on the decision of whether to go out there or not, but the male was unsure of it. Which meant he kept his feet right where they originally were: dizzying the sand.

[attr=class,inthemist_background] [attr=class,inthemist_back2] [attr=class,itm_tbox] **************************** The night was clear, the black sky littered with an uncountable amount stars and the world glittered from dew clinging to grass, shrubs and tree branches. It had rained an hour ago, and the rain clouds had long since disappeared in the night sky. The dew reflected from the only light offered on most nights; the third quarter full moon that stood high in the sky, looking down on the mortal realms from its perch in the heavens. However, even without the light, the darkness could not conceal his vision regardless of the fact that his eyes were blue. Just because his eyes aren't the color of a pure wolf, did not mean he lacked their vision. Fortunately, he had never had to deal with such ignorance because of his pack. Such a gorgeous night would have usually drawn Xin's attention, but not this time. From his hiding place in the thick brush, Xin's eyes widened in disbelief and shock of what he had just witnessed. He gapped, staring at the lone figure at the edge of the cliff. A pure white male wolf about the size of thirty-three inches stood, looking down over the cliff, his ears pricked forward and his tail was standing up high with pride. Though he couldn't see his face, Xin could imagine the smug look on the wolf's face and the eyes deathly cold; a look that had often turned to him and his family. A crow cawed, so loud and sudden. The sound snapped him out of his shock, and immediately he whipped around to run back to camp. However, just when he had the pure white wolf stood in front of him. Xin yelped in surprise, shocked. He looked behind him to see the wolf no longer stood by the edge of the cliff that was several meters away. How could the wolf had gotten behind in from such a distance in a split second? Xin turned his head back to look at the wolf, but just as he did, the bigger wolf lunged at him, fangs glistening in the moon's light. **************************** Xin's eyes flew open, and he jerked back expecting to feel his flesh to tear with immense pain. However, his flesh did not split, and there was a pain, but not to the degree he had expected. Panting, Xin shook his head, his face throbbing with pain; right where his skin had long since healed but scarred over. Not again, Xin groaned, squeezing his eyes shut to will the memories of his nightmare away with little success. Annoyed with himself, Xin got to his paws and shook the loose soil out of his thick grey and brown coat. He loped away from under the tree he had slept under for a midafternoon nap. A nap, ruined, because of that persistent memory that did not want to go away even after a year had passed. The smell of water was thick in the air. In his travels, Xin had come across a small lake with a fascinating island in the middle that had four unnatural bridges on each side. Curious, yet tired, Xin had inspected one of the bridges; ones made by humans that have long been extinct. Before his exile, Xin would not have believed of what the humans have created with their own paws. His pack was secluded, away from any human creations. It was truly mysterious how such a species with such magical abilities could go extinct. It was a chilling reality, knowing that even the greatest of species could die out. Ahead, the trees broke away to light and water. Xin's thoughts of the humans swept away from his mind like a swift, powerful current of the river and his stride quickened. He broke into a run and rushed into the lake. [PTabbedContent][PTab=Info] [attr=class,itm_info_tbox] {{ word count . 637 {{ tags . Braveheart ♥ My first IC post in Instinct! WOOT!! Hunger began to tickle Wicked's stomach as he waded in the water, his gaze still resting upon the island across the water. Of course there would be no harm in swimming across the way, he could even find himself an easy meal on the island. The only drawback Wicked had hanging in his mind was the swim. Sure it wasn't a far swim, however the male had never been a huge fan of deep waters. In fact, you could even say he had a bit of a fear of them. He huffed as he still struggled with the decision to swim across, but turned to get out of the water and back into land. Perhaps if he walked around the water he may find something of interest that would distract his interest in the island.
The mutt shook his fur dry as he climbed to the bank of the lake, raising his nose to the wind to scent it. The only thing he could smell was the scent of water and wet dog, however, so he decided just to wing it. He began trailing alongside the water, following the curves and trenches of the water. Before he'd gotten far into his exploration, however, Wicked picked up the sight of a wolf in front of him. He'd only met one other wolf before, and she had been quite.... interesting, to say the least. He couldn't, however, ignore the sliver of interest he had in his mind toward this canine. Perhaps he wasn't like the snow colored female, or perhaps he was. Wicked figured he'd find out soon enough.
With a new goal in mind, Wicked's feet walked with purpose again, quickening their pace into a run toward this mutt. He tried his best to scent out the dog before he reached it, however he still had no luck as there seemed to be little wind today. He drew nearer and he slowed down, stopping at the bank near the wolf playing in the water. "Hey," Wicked yowled, "what're you doing that for?"

[attr=class,inthemist_background] [attr=class,inthemist_back2] [attr=class,itm_tbox] In an instant, the water rushed around him, covering him like a heavy blanket of cold. He dove below the surface and his vision blurred as he entered the other half of the world. Though his vision was blurred he could see movement moving swiftly at the edge of his vision. Once or twice he got the flash of light reflecting off the sun and Xin knew it was the fish that live in this lake. He could also see the weeds that live under the water as he casually kicked his legs to go deeper. As he continued to hold his breath, he squinted and looked around him, trying in vain to see more detail with his only one good eye.
Sometimes, he wished he had eyes like the fish. What could he discover that couldn't be seen with these eyes? He knew it was different compared to the land, but how different is a mystery to him. He loved mysteries and loved the unknown, unlike his superstitious ex-pack who even believed there were demons in the water and that if a canine drowns in the water the demons would take their souls. Crazy right? Maybe that was another reason why he was treated so horribly besides his sexuality. They didn't mind the water but they never loved it like he did and they even thought he was insane because he liked to swim even more than going out on a run.
His lungs burned and his brisket began to hurt from lack of oxygen. Reluctantly, Xin kicked with his hind legs and headed back to the surface. A rush of air and bright sunlight met him as he broke the surface. He coughed out water that managed to get in his throat and gasped in heaps of air. Okay, maybe staying that long underwater wasn't such a good idea after all. However, he did feel a lot better. The water never seemed to fail in taking away all the negative things within him like it was little more than dirt or mud. How could such a thing contain demons? Sometimes, Xin felt the water too was as misunderstood and misjudged as he was. It was truly his only best friend.
"Hey," a male voice howled, interrupting Xin's thoughts as he shook his head to shake off the water from his ears. "What're you doing that for?"
Xin whipped his head around, spraying water from his chin and looked back. Several meters away stood a red and white furred dog that looked similar to wolves but not so much as not to see the clear differences. The male dog stood by the bank looking his way. Did the dog call to him? Xin looked around, thinking the dog must have been calling to someone else. However, he could see no one around but himself. Curious, Xin turned back to the dog and cocked his head. "Are you talking to me?" he called, kicking his legs with ease to keep his head above water.

Without a clue in the world of what he should do, Wicked watched as the wolf went beneath the water.... and didn't come back up. His eyes popped a little bit, staring blankly with shock at what he'd just witnessed. Had the wolf been eaten? Swallowed by the depths beneath him? His tail anxiously twitched as he stood, stepping forward ever so slowly until his paws were enveloped by cold, dark water. He was honestly a bit afraid to leave the shore, but Wicked wasn't sure if he'd need to retriever a body, or even part of one for that matter. He waited anxiously, biting his tongue yet unable to feel the pain, until finally the creature broke the surface again with a gasp, like a newborn being born into the world once more. Once again Wicked was shocked, but this time he was also bewildered. Where had the mutt gone? Was there breathable air beneath the surface and was Wicked simply scared of the water for no reason at all?
The mutt swallowed his fear as the wolf finally acknowledged him, asking if it had been him Wicked was talking to. At first, still a bit shocked, Wicked simply nodded, his tongue pinned between his teeth and unable to talk. He quickly shook the shock away, however, and cleared his throat, nodding again as he spoke this time, "Uh, yeah. What are you, a duck? Where the heck did you go?" While the male would have preferred to have a bit more controlled reaction, he really couldn't help his bewilderment by this canine. He'd never seen anything like that and he was curious and concerned at the same time.
Wicked really wanted to rein in his curiosity, but the sight of this simply brought forth his previous puppy curiosity. He'd always wondered about the water, but fear had also clouded his mind and blinded his eyes to the possibilities. He'd never once thought of what could be down there except, perhaps, of the monstrous creatures that would nibble on his toes if he'd stayed in one spot too long. The husky had always been afraid of those critters that would chomp on his toes, perhaps because of stories his mother would tell when his brother would swim out too far, or perhaps simply of his own imagination. Either way, the male couldn't stop the questions from flooding his tongue and spilling out into words, "What's down there?"

[attr=class,inthemist_background] [attr=class,inthemist_back2] [attr=class,itm_tbox] At first, the dog by the bank stared at him with wide blue eyes. Dubiously, the male red and white dog nodded but said nothing. Xin couldn't help but lightly smile at that. He wouldn't be surprised that the canine was surprised by his behavior. Not many swim just for the joy of it after all. The dog's reaction wasn't anything new to him. Even some of his packmates looked at him in awe while others just looked at him as if he had nuts instead of a brain. Xin couldn't help but find it amusing by the number of reactions animals express.
Since it was apparent the dog was talking to him, Xin leaned forward and kicked his legs to push himself toward the other canine. Halfway to the other dog, he heard the male speak. "Uh, yeah. What are you, a duck? Where the heck, did you go?"
A force ran through his brisket and chest, and his throat rumbled before letting out a burst of laughter. A duck? Okay, that one was new. Thank the Ancestors that he was in good shape. Otherwise, he would have gotten too out of breath to swim to shore and drown. He felt his paws touch loose soil and pebbles beneath him and pushed a little harder to reach solid ground.
"What's down there?" the dog added another question to the list of questions to answer.
Standing on firm ground again, Xin panted as the laughter died out of his chest. He better answer some of this dog's questions before he gets buried in them. "No, I'm not a duck, but I do have webbed feet." Xin replied. He took a step further, so the water touched his belly. Lightly, Xin shook his body that was heavy with water. It didn't help much since he was still in the water, but it did help some. "As for your other questions, there is a whole new world below the surface" he added with an easy grin. Xin turned and carried on out of the water. The water just surrounding his paws now, Xin vigorously shook his coat to free himself of the liquid. Now that he had his swim, he felt a lot better.

The wolf's laughter toward Wicked's question rubbed the mutt raw. Obviously he'd been so flabbergasted by the sight of this wolf that he'd forgotten how to speak sarcasm. He shrugged it off, though, knowing that was his own fault and not this wolf's. He'd just have to be more aware of what he was saying and how he was saying it. "Well obviously I knew you weren't a duck," he spoke, but he gave little effort into trying to fix his mistake with this wolf. If he thought Wicked was a pea-brained hot bod, so be it. Wicked wasn't going to fight the reputation he'd be given, so long as he was still handsome.
Flicking his ear as the wind brushed against the sensitive hair in his radiators, Wicked's head turned with the wind to glance behind him. Nothing new, though the trees leaves dancing together as they were stirred by the wind filled the pup's ears with the song of nature. The wolf rang out behind him, answering Wick's other questions as he came to shore and shook off some of the water that clung to his coat, though that was much effort for little payoff. "As for your other questions, there is a whole new world below the surface," he heard come from the wolf's tongue. "How specific," he thought to himself as he glanced back at the wolf, observing him more in depth as he came forth from the water.
The wolf was well built, but he wasn't bursting at the seams with muscle, nor good looks. Wicked still had him beat. He seemed to be a bit longer than he was tall, almost similar to a cat he had met back in the day, though the proportions were no where near as exaggerated. The wolf was dark for the most part, but he had light areas to his fur as well, similar to the dog's own, though his colors ran without borders the way Wicked's did. They danced and mixed together in a frenzy, creating a pattern without specifications to what he was supposed to look like. And, while his coat was mostly grey scale, he had a few reddish hues blurred into the darkest areas of his coat, almost enough to lighten his appearance, but not enough to outshine the black. His ears stood tall and proud, coming to a sharp point the same way his nose did. For the most part, this canine was a typical wolf. But with one exception. His eyes shone blue, almost as brilliant as the husky's. His gaze was a bit more predatory, too, but that was an unfair advantage of his, as the wolf had generations and generations of wild blood through his veins while Wicked had the fingerprints of humans somewhere in his makeup.
Overall, Wicked found the wolf to be a good specimen of his breed. He could even go as far to say he was attractive, but Wicked knew if it would come down to it he could work his tail hard enough and poison his words with serpentine songs to win the ladies in a competition between himself and the wolf.
"Well bird or not, I'll call you Duck unless you're willing to provide an alternative. I've only ever seen a bird move under the water like that," he spoke, his eyes meeting the stranger's own in a battle of the blues for who would break the eye contact first. Heck, it would probably be Wicked due to his easily distracted line of sight, but there was no harm in placing bets. "Wicked's my name, but you can call me whatever. Even Goose if it suited your fancy." he spoke again to introduce himself, giving a nod of his head in a friendly gesture to the wolf.

[googlefont="Aubrey"] [attr=class,inthemist_background] [attr=class,inthemist_back2] [attr=class,itm_tbox] His amusement died when he had noticed his laughter had rubbed the dog in front of him the wrong way. That hadn't been his intention to mock the canine. He had sincerely found it amusing by the dog's reaction which Xin thought the dog shouldn't be ashamed. In fact, this dog's response was better than some of the others he got. For example, some of the canines and animals he had come across thought he was a water demon that manifested into the form of a wolf and either ran away with their tails tucked between their legs or attacked him. So yes, this dog's reaction was majorly better than others.
"Well bird or not, I'll call you Duck unless you're willing to provide an alternative. I've only ever seen a bird move under the water like that," the red and white dog said. Xin looked back at the dog without moving his body and raised his right brow. He had to move his head further to his left so he could see the dog with his right eye. Though Xin could see the dog a little with his left eye, all he could really see was a red and white blob. The only thing he could see in that eye is light and some blurry outlines of objects but only when the sun or light was shining on them. If he was looking into shaded spots, all he would be able to see is darkness even if it's in the midday. "Wicked's my name, but you can call me whatever. Even Goose if it suited your fancy."
Now that he was looking at the dog with his good eye and not trying to get out of the water he could genuinely examine him. The canine was certainly good looking. No, that would be an understatement. He was handsome and bordered on beautiful. He had beautiful blue eyes similar to his own and few canines have such red fur, and with the white, it was a gorgeous combo. In fact, the only other canine he could think of that had even better red coat were maned wolves.
In his travels, he had come across many wolves who looked down on dogs and went so far as to call them ugly because most of the dogs' genetics come from human manipulations. Though his previous pack wasn't perfect, at least they weren't utterly racist - though they were speciest - and didn't talk dogs down like that. In fact, his previous pack was full of wolfdogs and dogs, he included.
"I apologize if I came off as rude or mocking. It was honestly not my intentions," Xin said with a dip of his head and gazing into the dog's eyes.
There was a challenge there. A show of dominance? Though Xin was dominant by nature, he didn't see the need to answer this canine's challenge unless he was going to be a jerk about it. A smile edged on Xin's lips and turned his head slightly right.
"Wicked... a nice and mischievous name. I am Xinzryas, but it's hard to pronounce, so everyone just calls me Xin," he introduced himself, his smile widening. "And if I were to call you anything Goose wouldn't be one of them." He turned his head slightly left to look the dog in the eye better. "I would probably call Handsome or Sexy," Xin turned his head around and as he did he winked with his left eye and carried on till he was completely out of the water. He wondered if Wicked was gay or bi, but if he was straight, he hoped he didn't take his pass the wrong way. Hopefully, the dog isn't one of those sexualists because if he was this dialogue was going to end rather quickly and messy.
