action speech thoughts cerkowah Drokhan nodded slowly before he tilted his head to the side slightly. "Your mother must have lived a very, very long life. It's been several generations in my family since anyone saw one. I'd admittedly always assumed that they were only stories exaggerated." He stared on, rather transfixed. "How could they make things like that? Were they truly so powerful as all that? If so, how were they mortal beings and not gods?" The awe was clear, and awe was not something that Drokhan often felt - he'd encountered many things in his life or at least heard of them, and even if he hadn't he could feign feeling only a curiosity that proved to be bound in an intellectual desire rather than ignorant shock. But how these humans were spoken of... This truly awed him and terrified him. How could creatures control things like that? How could they change the landscape in such a drastic, unnatural way? How could they make something out of virtually nothing, and transform things from one state to another with relative ease? He couldn't quite wrap his mind around this, and that was something that he couldn't say had ever really happened before. The fox could always manage to conceptualize things in some fashion that made sense to him. This though, he couldn't quite and this almost instilled in him a sense of utter disturbance. He blinked at Valentin's next comment, and for a moment could only offer a chuckle. "My father drove home that foxes are not the stereotypes. In some ways, I strive for those stereotypical traits, but when it comes down to it, I'm at my core what my father molded me into. I may wish to trick another, but I'd never do so in a way to be malicious or to hurt them. It'd only be for fun. Outside of the physical features, I'm afraid I don't adhere much to the idea of foxes as deceitful little self-centered thieves. I don't wish to hurt another, I really only desire to understand this world."He nodded slightly. "I hear the mountains, the true mountains and not the singular peaks close to here, but the mountains that stretch from horizon to horizon no matter how far you walk, are very very far away. I've always wanted to go, to see them for myself, but I'm in the same boat as you. I'm small. If I were the size of a bear or even a large dog, maybe I'd brave the long distance. But it doesn't pay to go places you're completely unfamiliar with when you're small - you never know when something might decide that it needs to take a bite of you." He commented. What he would give to be just a little larger, a little more ferocious looking... Then he could travel and understand the world in a whole new way, but alas, that was not the body he had been given, and thus, was not meant to be his way of understanding. "I can go far, and I can go fast, but it's no match for the things that chase you for miles, and can still hit you with the force of a rock falling upon you. I could be picked up by a bird if it were large enough."

> Valentin < Valentin had a hard time agreeing with the fox's awe at the human's creations. " Don't you think they were more malicious than incredible? They could build amazing things sure, but they had the power to take creatures from their homes and take them miles away. Does any creature deserve that power? Should any species, no matter their power, have the right to so completely control another's life?" The cat shifted on his paws, reaching back and scratching his ear with a hind leg. " I heard they even created dogs from wolves... I'm not sure I'm comfortable with something having so much control. While I am aware not all humans were the kind to steal animals from their homes, I am too nervous that the few with this power that have more malicious intentions can over rule the kinder ones." Although their opinions differed, Val was enjoying this conversation immensely. Drokhan seemed to have a similar outlook on the world as Valentin, not really wanting to take part in it, but wanting to simply observe it. They both had a specific kind of brain, one that cataloged all the information it processed into neat categories, filing them away for later use. Every interaction they held, every sight they saw was stored in their minds, ready to be called up for further inspection at a moments notice. "I feel bad that foxes have such a negative connotation assigned to them, but I am grateful you do not fit these stereotypes. I imagine most foxes do not fit that description, and I apologize for assuming you did." He dipped his head respectfully, " Felines do not have as much negativity assigned to them, but they are generally described as elegant and smooth. However, as you can see, I do not fit either of these descriptions." Valentin pondered the foxes words, blinking his large eyes. " Do you believe in reincarnation?" He asked, tilting his head to the side. " My mother had always taught me that there are only so many souls, and that they are recycled essentially, through different bodies. While I personally do not believe in it fully, it is an interesting idea. On the topic of our conversation, it means both of us could have once been human, or dog, or wolf, or even bird. Perhaps we have already been to the mountains in another life, or we will have the capacity to get there after our deaths." Valentin groomed his chest fur idly, flattening the fur with his tongue. Valentin had a hard time wrapping his head around this idea, as he imagined if reincarnation were true creature's would have some sort of memories of their previous lives. Perhaps others did, but Valentin did not. All he knew was this life, and he had no desire to live another. authgrim

action speech thoughts cerkowah The fox pondered this cat's word for a moment, thinking over each syllable, each word, each sentence with a particular amount of thought. "I think with great intelligence and power comes a great amount of responsibility. The two-leggeds abused their power, it sounds like it fully. But such a power in concept is amazing. I personally cannot build a structure, I can merely dig a hole and decorate it with feathers and moss and furs. I can't imagine having the ability to create with anything but my mind. The abuse of their power sounds horrible, truly. Perhaps not all of them abused this power, so is it fair to fault all for the deeds of a few?" He tilted his head to the side, pondering his own words for a moment. "It's a folly to judge a species from a few - most animals do it. Foxes are sly, wolves are brutish and elitists, dogs are lesser because they were changed. Not all believe these stereotypes, not all apply to them. But somewhere they became a truth that we're all taught to inherently believe unless we force ourselves to think otherwise. A mind is a great thing to have, but it seems quite easy to let the power of knowledge to get out of control."His tail swished to the side, a contented look upon his narrow features. It was pleasing to have such an intellectual conversation - he'd yet to have one and he could almost feel his mind beginning to cough and wither, vying for use before it was lost for good. This cat was feeding it, watering it, nurturing it with his words and opinions. They seemed to agree on many things, and differ on others. To Drokhan this was a beautiful concept that began the path towards friendship. What good were friends if they did not challenge each other's thoughts, give each other food for thought? He smiled slightly, nodding. "I doubt many actually ever fit stereotypes. I don't know why they exist, but it's quite easy to fall into that thought process. I've found myself trapped within it before and struggled to get myself out of it. But perhaps that's the process of learning to not fall into such a trap; realizing you're in it and making an effort to get out." It was an interesting idea, to say the least. Was there truly a way to break such a thought process that seemed so ingrained within the mind naturally? Reincarnation? Tail swished as he thought and thought hard about the topic. He had never truly given it much thought, but he couldn't imagine why it couldn't be a possibility. "To be honest, I haven't thought upon it much. It's truly an interesting concept though. It's comforting in a strange way. But why do we not remember? That's an even more interesting idea. I've heard tales - perhaps its just a saying that doesn't quite mean much - of a white light after one dies. If reincarnation is true, the way of the world beyond our understanding, then perhaps that has something to do with it? Perhaps we aren't supposed to remember. Do our souls remember in that case?" The fox fell silent for a moment, gazing into the forest with a glaze to his eyes. "Perhaps it's not the endpoint that it's meant to reach - regardless of the information gained, useful or not. But perhaps it's the journey. If it is the case, perhaps it's what our souls need to continue being souls - maybe it's their purpose to live a life, forget it, then live another. The sway and ebb of the world, if you will, like the waves of a lake. Or perhaps it's more like the stream," he jumped down from his perch, landing in the water ankle deep. "A constant flow, never still, never quite reaching destination all at once, but forever stretching towards it and beginning at the source all at once." He glanced back at Valentin, awaiting his response.
